City Description
Taguig, officially known as the City of Taguig, is a bustling coastal city situated on the eastern shores of Metro Manila, Philippines. With a population of 1.2 million, it is the fifth-most populous city in the country. Taguig has evolved into a major cultural, financial, high-tech, entertainment, and media hub, influencing commerce, healthcare, research, technology, education, politics, tourism, dining, art, fashion, and sports. Additionally, it is home to numerous embassies, underscoring its importance in international diplomacy.
The city hosts the headquarters of many multinational corporations and boasts the fourth-largest skyline in the Philippines, with 289 high-rises, including 80 buildings exceeding 100 meters (328 feet). Taguig is located along the northwestern shores of Laguna de Bay in Metro Manila and is widely known for Bonifacio Global City (BGC), one of the country’s leading financial districts.
Taguig’s transformation from a simple fishing village during the Spanish and American colonial periods to a highly urbanized city is remarkable. This change was driven by the development of former military reservations into financial centers and mixed-use communities by the Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA). In 2004, Taguig was granted highly urbanized city status with the passage of Republic Act No. 8487, which was ratified by a plebiscite.
Covering an area of approximately 54.04 square kilometers (20.86 square miles), Taguig is located in the southeastern part of Metro Manila. It is bordered by Pasig and Pateros to the north, Makati and Mandaluyong to the northwest, Pasay and Parañaque to the west, Taytay in Rizal province to the northeast, and Muntinlupa to the south.
The city’s strategic location and rapid development have made it a focal point for growth and modernization in the Philippines. The continuous expansion of Bonifacio Global City and other planned communities within Taguig has positioned it as a prime destination for both business and leisure. The city’s infrastructure, including modern shopping centers, international schools, and healthcare facilities, further enhances its appeal.
Taguig’s cultural landscape is rich and diverse, with various festivals, art exhibits, and cultural events held throughout the year. The city also prides itself on its dining and nightlife scene, offering a wide range of restaurants, bars, and entertainment venues. The presence of numerous parks and recreational areas, such as the popular Bonifacio High Street and Venice Grand Canal Mall, provides residents and visitors with ample opportunities for relaxation and enjoyment.
Overall, Taguig stands as a dynamic and progressive city that continues to grow and develop, offering a high quality of life for its residents and a vibrant environment for businesses and tourists alike.
