City Description
Agra, nestled along the banks of the Yamuna River in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh, is a city rich in history and culture. Located about 230 kilometers southeast of Delhi and 330 kilometers west of Lucknow, Agra boasts a population of approximately 1.6 million, making it the fourth-most populous city in Uttar Pradesh and the twenty-third in India.
Agra’s significant historical journey began during the reign of Sikandar Lodi, but its golden era truly commenced with the advent of the Mughal Empire in the early 16th century. Under the rule of Mughal emperors such as Babur, Humayun, Akbar, Jahangir, and Shah Jahan, Agra blossomed into a prominent center for learning, arts, commerce, and religion.
